Awesome Things to Do Today (Wednesday, 6/22)

Usually I’d give you five awesome things to do, but today, I’m going to give you three extremely awesome things instead. I think it’s only appropriate to make a big fuss over the lone Connecticut professional sporting event that anyone cares about, The Traveler's Championship, which is in full swing today.

Although the first round of the Travelers Championship begins tomorrow, today is full of exciting events. The Celebrity Pro-Am tournament has tee times spanning from 6:50am to 2pm, and with a wide variety of celebrity guests it’s sure to be great fun. If nothing else it’s worth watching to see Michael Bolton swing a golf club. And if fellow guest Joe Pesci chuckles at his swing, or over the fact that he used to look like this, I can only hope that Michael uses this classic rant as a reply.

Mike Francesa will also be on the course, but instead of hitting drives he’s hitting the airwaves with his sports talk show Mike’d Up: Francesa on The Fan.  So if you get a little golfed out, you can stop by and listen to him discuss other sports for a bit before heading back out on the course.

If you’d like two tickets to paradise, grab a friend and head on over to the Subway Fan Zone where Eddie Money will be ending the day  festivities with a concert. The proceeds will go to a collection of charities, so you can feel a little less guilty about causing irreparable ear damage to those around you when you inevitably chime in with "be my little baby."

Sure, a day full of golf, talk radio, Michael Bolton, and Eddie Money might not exactly be like catching a game at Fenway or going to The Garden, but it’s the best Connecticut has to offer. So have a little state pride and head on over to the TPC River Highlands today.
