Rarotonga, Cook Islands (South Pacific)

GALE AND PATRICK DILGER of Deep River submitted this photo of their son beside the lagoon at Muri Beach, Rarotonga, last summer. Situated about two hours west of Tahiti by plane, Rarotonga is the main island in the scattered Cook Islands chain. They write, "For us, this photo, taken just before sunset, sums up the tranquillity of Rarotonga, a place unhurried and unfettered by commercialism, where watching the sun descend over the lagoon, past the coral reef and into the vastness of the Pacific Ocean is an activity in itself."
