Michael R. Sharon of Vernon submitted this photo, taken during a recent family vacation to Yunnan Province in southwest China.
Writes Dr. Sharon: Yunnan "is rich in culture and has great natural beauty. The province extends from the tropical Burmese border to
the Tibetan Himalayan Mountains. The photograph from the crystal-clear Black Dragon Pool, constructed in 1739, is part of a
provincial park about a 20-minute walk from the old city of Lijiang, which is listed by UNESCO as the best-preserved ancient city in
China. The temples in the background were built during the Ming Dynasty (1601), and the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
glaciers at the lowest latitude (27 degrees) in the Northern Hemisphere (same as Tampa, Fla.)."
