"Carmencita Dancing" by John Singer Sargent was last exhibited in 1911 at the Art Institute of Chicago. The Spanish dancer wouldn't be found again until Sal D'Amico bought her for $3 from the Middletown Historical Society. His obsessive quest to have "Carmencita Dancing" authenticated drove him to hate it. But many others would soon covet the painting.
