3. If you don't need your car, don't bring it

A lot of colleges have really high prices for parking permits, especially for first-year students. Unless you cannot live without a car, don't bring it. For one, you see more of where you're living by walking or taking public transportation, and you won't end up "the kid with the car" that chauffers everyone around.
