Archaeological digging

Cheri Collins, Program Coordinator and Collection Manager at the Connecticut. State <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PLCUL000196" title="Museum of Natural History" href="/topic/science/museum-of-natural-history-PLCUL000196.topic">Museum of Natural History</a> & Connecticut Archaelogy Center, helps 10-year-old Jason Zhang, of <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PLGEO100100207100000" title="Storrs" href="/topic/us/connecticut/tolland-county/storrs-PLGEO100100207100000.topic">Storrs</a>, clean and sort his findings from three days worth of archaeological digging during this week's archaeology camp. The camp is part of the "Kids are Scientists Too!" program, and youngsters entering grades 5-10 dug around an old colonial home near the <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="OREDU0000152" title="University of Connecticut" href="/topic/education/colleges-universities/university-of-connecticut-OREDU0000152.topic">UConn</a> campus. Mostly they found coal, stone, and shards of broken plates. Holding up a rusty nail, Nick Farrell, 10, of Hebron, said "It's exciting when you find something that isn't coal."
