-Hartford Eric Mangini rises to NFL head coach

His mentor, Bill Belichick, was not too pleased, but after spending several years as the defensive coordinator of the <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="ORSPT000192" title="New England Patriots" href="/topic/sports/football/new-england-patriots-ORSPT000192.topic">Patriots</a>, Connecticut’s own <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PESPT008590" title="Eric Mangini" href="/topic/sports/football/eric-mangini-PESPT008590.topic">Eric Mangini</a> made the leap to head coach, landing the <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="ORSPT000199" title="New York Jets" href="/topic/sports/football/new-york-jets-ORSPT000199.topic">Jets</a>’ job in 2006. He was fired after the 2008 season, but landed on his feet for 2009 as head coach of the <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="ORSPT000038" title="Cleveland Browns" href="/topic/sports/football/cleveland-browns-ORSPT000038.topic">Cleveland Browns</a>.
