2005: Chad Bradford

The Trade - July 13 Red Sox acquire RHP Chad Bradford Oakland Athletics acquire OF Jay Payton Did it help? In need of bullpen depth, the Sox dealt Payton for the submarine-dealing righthanded reliever. Prior to the trade, Payton had been complaining about not getting enough playing time and Boston's bullpen had been hit by injuries. Bradford had been on the disabled list to begin the year, but was activated after the All-Star break. He went 2-1, with a 3.86 ERA in regular season 23.1 innings for Boston. He appeared in two postseason games for the Red Sox, giving up one hit and no runs in 1.1 innings of work as the Red Sox were swept by the Chicago White Sox in the ALDS. NICK LAHAM / GETTY IMAGES
