Fort Monroe is visited -- according to "Haunted Places: The National Directory" -- by a cast of ghosts that includes Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses Grant, Edgar Allan Poe and Capt. John Smith. In one home on the fort, the book reports, an entire family witnessed a marble tabletop floating into the air and smashing against a fireplace.
