Mammogram guidelines should look beyond age, researchers suggest

Women's risk of <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="HEDAI0000012" title="Breast Cancer" href="/topic/health/diseases-illnesses/breast-cancer-HEDAI0000012.topic">breast cancer</a> varies not just by age, but also by breast density, family history and personal preference. So, researchers wrote this week, the frequency of their mammograms should vary as well. In a study published in Annals of Internal Medicine, they urged a more nuanced approach than is currently recommended, one that will require considerable thought by both doctors and patients.
