Some good news for the family of a student from Waukesha County who was missing in Haiti - Melissa Elliott has been found alive and safe in the Dominican Republic.

The Elliotts were on their way to Florida, where Melissa attended school at Lynn University, to wait for news there. Melissa's father Mike got a text as he had a layover in Atlanta on his way to this daughter's Florida school.

Elliott was with a group of students and two faculty members from Lynn University on a mission trip in Haiti when the earthquake rocked the island nation Tuesday. Melissa's friend, Tom Schoemer of Fox Point is also on a list of those found safe and alive. Both are believed to be in the Dominican Republic finding flights to Florida, where their families are waiting.

Both Tom and Melissa are graduates of University School of Milwaukee. The school will have a "Compassion for Haiti Day", asking people involved with the school to contribute money.
