North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il hosted a discussion with former president Clinton in Pyongyang to negotiate Ling and Lee's pardon. The North Korean media claims that the journalists were pardoned after Mr. Clinton formally apologized for their actions, while a former U.S. official claimed that the Korean leader simply recalled Mr. Clinton sending him a letter of condolence at the passing of his father, Kim Il-sung, and was acting in kind.
