There was a lot of literal blood, sweat and tears in last night's episode of The Biggest Loser. The contestants headed into the dreaded and feared second week of competition - where the pounds don't come off quite as easily as they did the first.
The Brown team's lone contestant, John, was beaten into submission by Jillian and we found out about his family's tragic tendency to die young. He turned to food for comfort as he had to deal with the deaths of his dad, grandma, sister, best friend and brother-in-law. Last week we saw what a great job his brother did at home so I can't wait to see him shed the pounds.
The Orange team had to watch Jillian eat one of their meals - which looks like they only eat at Taco Bell. Again, I'm not sure why Jillian had to eat it in front of them but she looked miserable. Thankfully it looks like Taco Bell now has some lighter menu options - they've got a woman in their new commercials who will be the next Jared from Subway (though Jillian still probably wouldn't approve).
For their elimination challenge, the teams had to carry balls cross a bridge over a pool and place them into a holder. The winning team won immunity and the losing team had to take a two pound disadvantage on the scales. Maria from the White team has a huge phobia of water, so much so that she becomes paralyzed with fear. As she attempted to make it across the beam, she made a last minute leap back to the safe area and face-planted onto the concrete floor. There was blood everywhere and for a while it was pretty scary. Her teammate, son Michael, was unable to finish the challenge and they found themselves with the two pound disadvantage. The Red team, Melissa and Lance, won the challenge.
When the team got back from the hospital, Bob worked with Michael to get his confidence up and Jillian worked with Maria to not only face - but also conquer her fear of the water.
After a great last chance workout, the contestants had to step to the scale.
Melissa gained a pound and Lance lost 8. She admitted to using her immunity as part of game play so that next week she can lose even more.
Sam lost 9 pounds and Koli lost 8.
Ashley lost 8 and Sherry lost 5.
Miggy lost 8 and Migdalia lost 4.
Stephanie lost 3 and Patti lost 4.
Daris lost 7 and Cheryl lost 4.
John lost 10 pounds.
Andrea lost 5 and Darrell lost 10.
Maria and Michael needed to lost a total of 13 pounds to be safe from elimination - due to their 2 pound disadvantage. In the end, Maria lost 10 and Michael lost 11, keeping them safe.
The Purple team fell below the yellow line and asked that everyone else send Patti home. They complied with their wishes and in the "Where Are They Now" segment she looks like she's doing great. Her other daughter goes to the gym with her every day, her husband is taking dance classes with her and she was able to participate in her first 5k.
Biggest Loser Season 9
A second contestant is sent home on this week's episode.
