Elizabeth Park

In 2001, Dezman Stitzer, 6, helps Lance House, director of tennis for Orlo Vista Park, put rackets away after lessons at Elizabeth Park in Eatonville. House was teaching kids in a U.S. Tennis Association after-school program. (ORLANDO SENTINEL FILE)

Ever drive past manicured subdivisions with enticing tennis courts and say to yourself: "Boy, I sure wish I could play tennis for free"?

You can. Orange County and many of its communities offer free courts to residents and nonresidents alike. (So do other counties, but that's for another time.) If a court is listed below, it's free unless noted. The county and cities assured me that to play, you do not need to show an ID. Let me know at lmiller@orlandosentinel.com if that turns out to be incorrect.

All free courts in Orange are mapped at this site.
