After 16-months and $500,000, federal prosecutors unveiled their star witness in the Brian David Mitchell competency hearing. Dr. David Welner is a well respected forensic psychiatrist who's spent about a thousand hours going over the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping case. And while he doesn't break a lot of new ground, prosecutors believe Welner has compiled the facts into a compelling case for Mitchell's competence. Welner spent five hours on the stand Friday going over a 205-page report he's written on Mitchell. Welner will be back on the witness stand Monday, the 10-day hearing is scheduled to run through next Friday.
