It's fairly obvious that lack of sleep can lead to fatigue, illness, or even stress. But you may not know it can also lead to high blood pressure or diabetes; in fact, risk increases by 37 percent for every lost hour of sleep. According to the American Red Cross, getting plenty of sleep can reduce the risk of heart failure; however, over-sleeping (10 hours or more) can also be harmful. Aim for an average of seven or eight hours each night.
