Quit smoking and you're eliminating a habit that contributes to countless unnecessary deaths each year from an array of diseases including leading killers, heart disease and cancer.
The American Cancer Society invites smokers to quit for JUST ONE DAY each year at its Great American Smokeout -- this year on Thursday, Nov. 15. "Start small and make the call," the ACS suggests. For those who want to extend their quitting period beyond 24 hours, it invites smokers to call 1-866-784-8454 or go to www.quitnow.net/commonhealth.
