Class of the month: Brazilian Booty
Go for the glutes in this high-energy, lower-body workout

I was wrong.
You will not learn samba, salsa or whatever dance craze is sweeping the country. You will, however, tone your tush and discover muscles you never knew you had.
The workout is based on the TriAngle Training concept, which focuses on three major muscles of the buttocks — the gluteus maximus, gluteus medius and gluteus minimus — according to instructor Natasha Cooper, who developed the class in March.
"It's a high-energy, lower-body workout that focuses on lifting, shaping and building the glutes while having fun," she says.
During class, you will use a variety of equipment, including hand weights and Pilates balls. Cooper, who also teaches Barre and Pilates at Spa Seven, draws on her dance and yoga background to create a fluid workout that builds long, lean muscles without adding bulk. I felt the burn during the first stretch.
And if you have two left feet, don't worry — there is no choreography to memorize.
The class is designed as more of an aerobics workout than a dance routine, even if it's set to Top 40 dance music.
"It focuses on the lower body, but you also tone your abs and arms at the same time," Cooper says. "The cardio gets your heart rate up and we always stretch at the end."
Cooper teaches Brazilian Booty on Mondays at 7:30 p.m. and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. I highly recommend registering online to reserve your spot in class. Afterward, you can indulge in a facial or a massage at the adjoining spa. Your body will need a little TLC after working so hard.
