When you are faced with your own mortality the little things in life mean so much. In January 2008, a biopsy confirmed I had Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. A lumpectomy was performed but not all of the cancer was removed. After consulting with women who were survivors, I decided to drastically reduce my chances of reoccurence and had a bi-lateral mastectomy, hysterectomy and oophorectomy. These women only removed one breast and they regretted their decision. They now live in constant fear and if they could do it over again they would have opted to remove the healthy breast as well.

It's been two years now and I feel great. Thanks to a brilliant plastic surgeon the reconstruction of my breasts are close to perfection.

Until recently I didn't know what my true purpose in life was. Friends of friends and women I don't know recently diagnosed with breast cancer have contacted me. I tell them my story, with candor and humor. I let them know what to expect, the good and the bad. I know I have calmed their fears. Touching these women's lives has brought me much joy. My bout with breast cancer has inspired me to design and create "Honk if you are a Survivor" magnet available for sale on Ebay. I have raised money for Susan G. Komen, Passionately Pink campaign with the sale of my magnets and have sold pink ribbon jewelry and accessories from my "Pink Boutique". I recently discovered one of my ideas "Pennies for the Girls" is featured on the Susan G. Komen website this year.

When you are going through the trauma of breast cancer the support of family, friends is crucial. I would also like to mention an important group of women who I call the "Pink Angels". These angels are survivors who unexpectedly cross your path offering advice, support and encouraging words. Once you have been touched by a Pink Angel, you are now blessed with wings to fly into the lives of the women who are diagnosed everyday. I truly believe we will see a cure for breast cancer in the near future. In the meantime it's comforting to know the Pink Angels are working together to make a difference for us all.
