Second opinions are a must
After telling this story to a nurse friend, she gave me the name of another surgeon. This new surgeon looked at the mammogram, did a physical exam and ultrasound. The surgeon was only worried about the 2 cm lump in my right breast, missed by the previous surgeon. I had two lumpectomies on the right and one on the left breast (to check the spot - turned out to be normal tissue!) If I had not gotten a second opinion, it could have been a lot worse a year later. I went through eight chemotherapy treatments which lasted six months, then 35 radiation treatments. My experience was positive and lasted only 10 months.
If given the news of a lump or something on your mammogram, please get a second opinion and remember, the treatments are not for forever. Focus on the end date and plan for the future. Live each day to the fullest!
