Sheppard Pratt Health System Inc., Maryland's largest provider of mental health and special education services, is forming an affiliation with Alliance Inc. in what would essentially be a merger in the business world.
Towson-based Sheppard Pratt and Alliance in Dundalk will continue to operate as separate entities and maintain their own boards under the deal. But both will fall under the umbrella of the parent Sheppard and Enoch Pratt Foundation Inc.
Sheppard Pratt operates inpatient hospitals, day hospitals, special education schools for students with emotional disabilities or autism, residential services for adolescents and outpatient programs. It also manages psychiatric services for general hospitals in Maryland and Virginia. It has affiliations with three other Maryland community housing and psychiatric rehabilitation programs.
Alliance has annual revenues of more than $23 million, serves more than 3,400 clients and employs more than 630 persons as staff members and 300 contractors.
In fiscal 2011, Sheppard Pratt and its affiliated agencies) served more than 53,000 individuals and had net revenues of more than $273 million.
