Alcohol can ruin a New Year resolution to drop the weight

New Year’s Eve is behind us. For many, the resolution dieting has begun.

But some of us aren’t ready to give up on the celebrating and don’t consider how many calories alcohol packs. A 1.5-ounce serving of 80-proof alcohol has 96 calories alone, no mixers.

This WebMD article advises to avoid dessert drinks in disguise with lots of mixers and lots of heavy beers and drink water in between.

RA Shushi in Harbor East has also come up with some cocktails that are under 200 calories each.

They aren’t exactly guilt-free. But considering many libations pack fast food-level calories, these are a bit better. You can buy them for $8 each or you can make them at home. They’ve provided the recipes:

+Lychee-teenie (Lychee is an Asian fruit)

1.5 oz. Voli Lemon Vodka

1 oz. lychee juice

.5 oz. Monin Agave Nectar

.25 oz. lemon juice

1 lychee for garnish

In a shaker, combine first four ingredients with ice. Shake and strain into chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lychee.
