Update 5:45 p.m. Media outlets are reporting that the race has been canceled. Do you agree with the decision?
Earlier in the day when Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the race would go on he argued it would add a big economic boost to the city during a time it really needs it. But others argued that the city in its fragile state from storm Sandy couldn't handle thousands of visitors running through the streets.
Rescheduling the race would be hard. The logistics of a marathon are daunting and New York's attracts people from around the world. Many may not be able to reschedule a visit.
The Annapolis-10 miler was canceled last year because of storms and race organizers said it would be too difficult to reschedule.
