Beachgoers and local police view a piece of the space shuttle Challenger which washed ashore on <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PLGEO100100402010000" title="Cocoa Beach" href="/topic/us/florida/brevard-county/cocoa-beach-PLGEO100100402010000.topic">Cocoa Beach</a>, Florida, Dec. 17. The piece was identified later by <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="ORGOV000098" title="NASA" href="/topic/science/space/nasa-ORGOV000098.topic">NASA</a> as an aileron from the craft, which exploded on Jan. 28, 1986.
