Brendan Shanahan, traded by the St. Louis Blues to the Whalers for defenseman Chris Pronger, was a terrific player. During the '95-'96 season, the all-star and captain scored a team-high 44 goals and 78 points. But with the Whalers' future uncertain, Shanahan asked for a trade. After two games in the '96-'97 season, Shanahan was traded, along with teammate Brian Glynn, to the Detroit Red Wings where he went on to win three Stanley Cups. He was booed heavily when he returned to Hartford as a Red Wing.
