WEST HARTFORD — A New Hampshire woman who was a passenger on a motorcycle was fatally injured in a chain reaction accident on I-84 at the West Hartford/Hartford line Thursday afternoon.
Brenda L. Goodwin, 43, of Atkinson, N.H., and Mark R. Goodwin, 46, the motorcycle driver, were eastbound on I-84 near the Prospect Avenue/Oakwood Avenue exit about 3:40 p.m. when the motorcycle rear-ended a Toyota Corolla driven by Caroline A. Meade, 21, of Wethersfield.
The motorcycle fell over onto its side and Brenda Goodwin was run over by a third car, also a Toyota Corolla, driven by Anupam Adhikari, 27, of New Britain.
Traffic on the highway had come to an abrupt stop just before the accident.
Brenda Goodwin was taken to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, where she died at 4:40 p.m. Mark Goodwin, also of Atkinson, N.H., was taken to St. Francis. His injuries were described as non life-threatening.
Adhikari and Meade were not injured, state police said.
The roadway was closed until shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday so that state police could investigate.
