UConn and UMass are playing for the first time since 1999, a 42-point victory for the Minutemen. It was UConn's last game as a I-AA member. This will be the 72nd meeting between the teams following a 13-year gap. UMass holds a 36-33-2 edge. UMass enters game as the Mid-American Conference's newest member following its upgrade to FBS (formerly Division I-A). This could be the rekindling of a New England rivalry that would serve the area well, not to mention the teams' fans. Both coaches, Paul Pasqualoni of UConn and Charley Molnar at UMass, say a game on a yearly basis would be good.
