Hartford's TheaterWorks is taking the unusual step of inviting audiences to a piece of the tech rehearsal on Thursday, May 30, for the solo show, “Becoming Dr. Ruth," starring Debra Jo Rupp (Tv's "That '70s Show"). Thwe play begins previews on May 31 and opens June 7.
The special event is called “Uncorked” and it is being billed as “a special peek into the making of Mark St. Germain’s [play].” The event takes place from 7 to 8:30, with the first half-hour as a social and the following hour a look-see at the show’s technical rehearsal. Tickets are $20, and include a glass of wine.
By the way, the show is retitled from its original name, “Dr. Ruth: All the Way” to avoid confusion with the Robert Schenkkan’s “All the Way,” which has Bryan Cranston playing LBJ at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Mass. — not that audiences could mistake the four-foot-eight, German-accented sex therapist for our towering Texan former president.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
