House With Curb Appeal Seeks Enthusiastic Bids
The Mandeville Canyon-area estate, built in 1951, sits on about two-thirds of an acre with mountain views and a swimming pool. Fairfield Estate Echoes With The Sound Of Music
The price has dropped on Rockmeadow, the Fairfield estate once owned by composer Richard Rodgers and his wife, Dorothy.
Tthe 21.33-acre property overlooking a spring-fed pond was offered at $12.95 million a few years ago but was taken off the market for a while. The current owner wants to sell, said Tammy Pincavage of Westport Realty Group at William Pitt Sotheby's International Realty in Westport, and a few weeks ago the estate went back on the market at $8.35 million.
"It's very realistically priced in this economy," Pincavage said.
Designed and built by Cameron Clark in 1929, the Colonial-style home has been expanded over the years and now has three stories in 7,088 square feet. There are seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a large open kitchen and a library with cherry paneling. All the main rooms have water views. This is the house that Dorothy Rodgers described in "My Favorite Things," her 1964 book about interior decorating and entertaining.
The property also boasts a pool, tennis court, a 2-bedroom guest house and a 1-bedroom staff quarters. It also has greenhouses and a gardening shed that Martha Stewart used when she lived in Connecticut, Pincavage said.

A country retreat in New Milford that once was the home of violinist Isaac Stern just went on the market for $1,275,000.
Situated on 11.6 acres, the property adjoins 35 acres of land trust. The protected acreage also was owned by Stern but was donated by the current owner, said Peter Klemm of Klemm Real Estate, who has the listing.
The property's entrance includes a bridge over a babbling brook, Klemm said. "It's very charming." The main house was built in 1790 and has five bedrooms and four fireplaces. There is also a swimming pool with a guesthouse, and two rentable cottages on a separate 3-acre parcel.
Stern, who died at 81 in 2001, was renowned for discovering and championing young talent, including cellists Yo-Yo Ma and Jian Wang and violinists Itzhak Perlman and Pincus Zukerman. He also is credited with helping to save Carnegie Hall from demolition in 1960.

Shabby Chic Designer Sells Her Malibu Cottage
Designer Rachel Ashwell, the creator of the Shabby Chic brand, has sold her Malibu cottage for $3.55 million.
The one-story home, behind the gates of Malibu Colony, has limestone flooring, a master suite with an office area and separate one-bedroom, one-bathroom guest quarters. There are four bedrooms, four bathrooms and 1,783 square feet of living space. A brick patio and spa are surrounded by gardens.
Ashwell focuses on comfortable, practical designs and time-worn objects. Her Shabby Chic empire includes stores, accessory lines and furniture collections.
She bought the property in 2003 for $1.95 million, public records show.
Rapper-Actor Xzibit Lowers His Price A Bit
Rapper-turned-actor Alvin "Xzibit" Joiner has lowered the asking price to $650,000 on a Los Angeles house that has been approved for a short sale.
He bought the gated Woodland Hills-area house in 2003 for $670,000, public records show. Built in 1976, it has 3,160 square feet of living space, five bedrooms and four bathrooms.
Xzibit, 35, starred in "The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans" and "Gridiron Gang." He hosted the car makeover series "Pimp My Ride." Among his albums are "40 Dayz & 40 Nightz" and "Man vs. Machine."
He originally listed the house in 2008 at $1.2 million.

Canadian actress Estella Warren has listed her Beverly Hills home at $1,795,000.
The one-story house, built in 1959 and described as contemporary Regency style, has been recently remodeled. It features French doors, dark wood floors and an updated kitchen and bathrooms. The canyon-view house has three bedrooms, 2 3/4 bathrooms and 2,247 square feet of living space.
Appropriately, there is a swimming pool. The former synchronized swimmer and fashion model, 31, stars in the 2010 films "See You in September" and "Transparency." On television, Warren has appeared in "That '70s Show," "Law & Order" and "Ghost Whisperer."
Warren had the house priced a year ago at $1.95 million but ended up leasing it instead for $6,500 a month. She bought the property in 2006 for $1.78 million, records show.
