Attic Of The Webb House, Wethersfield

When Wethersfield merchant Joseph Webb died in 1761 at age 35, he had four slaves listed in the inventory of his property. It is thought that they lived here, in the attic of his house, built in 1752, an area which was filled with trade goods. The slaves and servants of his visiting guests would stay in this space as well. The area is now an exhibit at the Webb House, part of the Webb Deane Stevens Museum in town.
