Malone Wins At Thompson
Kerry Malone of Needham, Mass., came away with the lead after an early battle and then cruised to his first victory of the season in the 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature Thursday night at Thompson Speedway. Todd Ceravolo of Ledyard was second and Keith Rocco of Wallingford third.
Rocco and Troy Talman challenged Malone for the lead on the fourth lap.
"It was either make it or don't," Malone said of the move for the lead. "I knew I had to go for it. I knew whoever got in front first would probably have a good shot at winning this thing."
Malone held the top spot the rest of way, easily holding off Ceravalo.
"I just kept trying to go a little bit slower to save the tires because I figured for sure a caution would come out," Malone said. "Usually when I win these things it's with 25 or 30 cautions."
Larry Gelinas of Buxton, Maine, ran away with the 25-lap Late Model feature. It was his first win of the season, too. ... Eric Bourgeois of East Haddam won the 15-lap Mini Stock feature
