June: Race and Equality

Connecticut has long been at the forefront of the struggle for equal rights, a rich history that includes groups as diverse as the abolitionists of the 19th century and the activists fighting for same sex marriage in the 21st century. We'll look at the critical movements and moments that have changed the way we look at who we are, with particular focus on how these changes have played out in our schools and universities. CAPTION: Elizabeth Sheff, tries to ally the anxiety felt by her son Milo, 10 years old, before the start of a press conference announcing a desegretgation lawsuit filed against the state. The ten year-old is one of the plaintiffs in the case. At right is University of Connecticut law professor John C. Brittain, one of 10 lawyers who will be arguing the case in Superior Court.
