The Central Connecticut men's basketball team will not be able to practice at Detrick Gymnasium Tuesday due to President Obama's scheduled visit Wednesday to the New Britain Campus.
The Blue Devils will depart for Staten Island Tuesday and practice at Wagner College. Central plays at Wagner Wednesday in a Northeast Conference tournament quarterfinal. The team typically would practice at Detrick the day before the game and travel afterward.
A presidential visit calls for complicated security precautions so, as much as Obama loves hoops, Howie Dickenman's basketball team will be forced to adjust. Central could have found another local gym to practice -- for instance, the Blue Devils worked out at Trinity College when Detrick was closed due to a build-up of snow on the roof last year -- but decided to get the bus ride over with and get to New York.
Central is the No. 7 seed and playing No. 2 Wagner for the third consecutive postseason. Wagner won in 2012 and last season.
Obama will give a speech about raising minimum wage Wednesday afternoon at Detrick.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
