You expect seeing actors performing on the Yale Cabaret stage to go on to greater things.
But a musical that originated there?
"Fly By Night," a show that began at the Yale Summer Cabaret in 2009, will have its world premiere at the Dallas Theatre Center next year. The show will run April 26 to May 26, 2013. The music is conceived by playwright Kim Rosenstock ("Tigers Be Still") about the New York City blackout in 1965.
It is described as an "edgy, romantic comedy with a rock score." Rosenstock also collaborated on the book and score with Will Connolly and Michael Mitnick.
Connolly, by the way, is appearing in the Broadway musical "Once." Rosenstock co-wrote this week's episode of "New Girl." And Mitnick is the book writer for the proposed "Animal House" musical.
Erik Pearson directed the Cabaret show which included a cast consisting of Connolly, Austin Durant, Jared Eberlein, Alexandra Henrickson, Slate Holmgren and Sarah Sokolovic.
