NEW BRITAIN - More than $300,000 in grants were recently awarded by the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain, including $250,000 for a museum expansion.
The money supports non-profit programs and organizations serving Berlin, New Britain, Plainville and Southington. The foundation reported that last year, it gave a record $1.14 million in community grants.
The newest funding includes a $250,000 grant for the New Britain Museum of American Art's expansion. The museum broke ground last month on a 17,364-square-foot expansion to take place over the next year and a half.
Additional grants recipients include: New Britain Youth Theater, $13,930; New Britain Public Library, $3,400; Southington Public Library, $3,200; Plainville Public Library, $1,900; Berlin-Peck Memorial Library, $900; Community Mental Health Affiliates (CMHA), $25,000; Berlin-Peck Memorial Library, $2,229.
