Hard to believe that 50 years after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial we are still fighting for voter rights. North Carolina is leading the way to return us to 1956. There are other states who also want to make it difficult for African Americans, young people and the poor to vote and they’ll be passing their own laws before the 2014 elections.
Very simply, the authorities who run the states are determined to make it more difficult for people who lean toward the Democrats to vote. They carefully compiled the statistics on who voted for President Obama in 2012. Easy peasy with computers. Then they figured out how to make it more difficult, even impossible, for those folks to vote again while sounding like noble crime-fighters at the same time. Very clever. No drivers license, no transportation and no photo I.D. will cause a lot of people to stay home in 2014.
