Chris Holt, left, Manchester's fleet maintenance supervisor; and Joel Karnolt, a mechanic with the town. The two men fabricated a leaf collection box that sits inside a 20-ton dump truck. The box increases the truck's leaf collection capacity from about 16 cubic yards with the old, smaller box to 24 cubic yards and makes leaf collection more efficient, town officials said. Holt and Karnolt did this on their own, and the total cost was less than half the price of buying a similar steel box new. The town has two such specially equipped trucks vacuuming curbside leaves now, and more will likely be built for next fall's collection.
