Rock Cats Shut Out

The Rock Cats scattered eight hits but were unable to bring anyone home, losing 6-0 to the Reading Seawolves on the road Friday night. Shortstop Dixon Machado led the Seawolves' offense, going 2-for-3 with four RBI. Shortstop Jorge Polanco went 2-for-4 for the Rock Cats. Winning pitcher was Wilsen Palacios (7-4, 4.32); Patrick Dean (7-8, 5.11) took the loss.

Youth Soccer Night Set

The UConn men's soccer team, which kicks off its season Aug. 29 at home against Coastal Carolina, will host its first Youth Soccer Night Aug. 19. The event will give soccer players (through grade 8) the chance to watch a training session of the men's team. Gates open at the practice field behind Joseph J. Morrone Stadium at 5:30 p.m. and the first 100 youngsters in attendance will receive a gift from sponsor ProHealth. Each youngster in attendance will get an autographed UConn soccer poster signed by the team, and every youth player will be entered into a raffle to win a team-signed soccer ball. Parking is available at the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum on the UConn campus. ... The Quinnipiac men's basketball team released its non-conference schedule and has six games at the TD Bank Sports Center, highlighted by matchups with Oregon State and LaSalle University. Quinnipiac will also serve as the host of the Connecticut 6 Classic.

Clark No Longer With UConn

UConn junior defensive back Tyree Clark is no longer with the football team, school officials confirmed Friday. It was first reported by the New Haven Register. No reason was given for the parting. UConn is in summer practice now and opens Aug. 29 vs. BYU at Rentschler Field.
