Mario Pires, of Southington, teaches visual arts at Plainville High School. He has a fine arts degree from Southern Connecticut State University. Pires works mainly in 2-D media, focusing on watercolor, acrylic and mixed media and is a freelance artist, creating murals, portraiture and scenic renderings. This weeks cover is part of a series of paintings depicting glimpses of the contemporary traveler. My challenge has been to mimic the feeling of how the human eye focuses on a subject as well as putting the viewer in a perspective that visually pulls one into the paintings. The series, titled Visions from the Traveler, will be on display at the Barney Library in Farmington from Dec. 6-30.
