Walter Johnson of Bristol is a retired senior engineer from the former Sherwood Tool Co. in Berlin. He has been interested in art since he was in high school but did not pursue it seriously until after his retirement. "I wanted to be an artist but I also wanted to live," Johnson says. "I went into engineering so I could draw things. So long as I was drawing parts I was happy." He took art classes at Tunxis Community College and also had private lessons with area artists. He also became active with the Plainville Art League and his work was featured in a show the league put on at the Plainville Public Library in November. He has also displayed his work at the New Britain Museum of American Art and the Southington Public Library.
