A 48-year-old city man became the city's 20th homicide victim this year, after he was fatally shot in the city's North End over Labor Day weekend.
Kirk F. Taylor, of Albany Avenue, was found lying in the street near 396 Sigourney St. Hartford about 2:50 a.m. Monday. He had been shot twice and was rushed to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, where he died.
According to police sources, Taylor had just entered Sigourney Street through a shortcut on Burton Street when he encountered his assailant. He was shot in the back, and later the shooter moved closer to his body and shot him in the head, police said.
As of Tuesday, police were having trouble locating witnesses, said Nancy Mulroy, the spokeswoman for the Hartford Police Department. Police ask that anyone with information contact Sgt. Rob Davis at 860-757-4256 or leave confidential tips at 860-527-8477.
Taylor had a history of narcotics and larceny convictions, police said.
Other information about Taylor's personal history was unavailable on Tuesday.
Mothers United Against Violence will hold a vigil at 396 Sigourney St. at 6 p.m. today, near the site of the shooting.
