Raging Fire Forces About A Dozen Occupants From Hartford Apartment Building

The Hartford Courant

HARTFORD — An overnight fire forced about a dozen people from an apartment building on Wethersfield Avenue.

No one was injured in the fire, which was reported about 2 a.m. Five apartments were destroyed.

Cell phone video shows flames raging on the building's roof.

"The whole back porch was on fire," said resident David Lazu. "It was ugly. I couldn't breathe. The whole place was full of smoke. We couldn't see. Thank God we got out. And nobody got hurt."

Fire officials remained on the scene investigating early Tuesday. Fire Capt. James McLoughlin could not be reached early Tuesday.

Courant Staff Writer Christine Dempsey contributed to this report.
