United Technologies Corp. formally opened its engineering center in Wroclaw, Poland, on Friday and announced this week its expansion plans there.
The factory in Wroclaw was bought by Hamilton Sundstrand in 2011 and had 500 workers at the time. Now it has nearly 800.
The research and development center there employs about 130 engineers. The company said it plans to increase to 400 engineers by 2016.
UTC Aerospace Systems, the combination of Goodrich and the former Hamilton Sundstrand division, said the center "intends to attract top engineering students from local technical universities and contributes to the growth of the local economy."
United Technologies Corp., based in Hartaford, employs more than 10,000 people throughout Poland, the announcement said — up 3,000 from just three years ago.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
