Ebenezer Bassett (October 16, 1833 - November 13, 1908)

Bassett was born in Derby. He was appointed U.S. Minister Resident to Haiti in 1869, making him the first black diplomat for the United States, according to the <a href="http://www.loc.gov/pictures/item/00651115/">Library of Congress</a>.
