Of note: American League rookie of the year in 1950 as first baseman with the Red Sox (.322, 34 homers, 144 RBI). Played 13 major league seasons with five teams (.270, 152 homers, 704 RBI). Drafted in 1947 by the NBA's Providence Steamrollers, and in 1946 by the NFL's Chicago Bears.
