Even Sherlock Holmes would be impressed by the scenery Gillette Castle State Park offers.
Home of the late actor William Gillette (1853-1937), best known for his stage portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, Gillette Castle is a historic landmark not to be missed.
From mid-May to late-November, you can take the Chester-Hadlyme ferry across the CT River to reach the castle, watching its grandeur rise before you as you approach.
The East Haddam Historical Society, which plays an important role in preserving the Gillette name and estate, is located only 3-miles from the castle.
Along with wedding ceremonies, picnicking and hiking tours are also available.
