Thank God for Illinois. Why do I say that? Because if it weren't for them, Connecticut would be the most corrupt state in the union. As it is, we certainly have more corrupt politicians per square mile, mainly because Illinois is huge.
John Rowland, Ernie Newton, Paul Silvester, Phil Giordano, Joe Santopietro, Joe Ganim, Ben Andrews, Lou DeLuca, Eddie Perez, Lawrence Alibozek, Peter Ellef, John Rowland..yeah, I know. I already said John Rowland. I'm talking about the second investigation. And guess what? Rowland is now eligible to draw his state pension of $50,000 a year.
Why do these politicians knowingly commit crimes? Because they , like all criminals, think they can get away with it. I mean really, who commits a crime thinking they'll be caught. Every crook thinks he won't get caught and every crook who's caught is innocent.
Why do they think they can get away with it? I can only surmise that it's because so many politicians are doing it. My guess is every politician knows at least one other politician who is illegally looting some source of money.
Maybe It comes down to a warped sense of entitlement for power and money that, somehow, they think they deserve. I wouldn't know, I'm just another poor schlump who thinks he has to work for a living.
All I can say is thank you to the FBI and, oh yeah...kick butt!Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
