NORFOLK Stephen Place, 72, of Lakeville, Massachusetts, jogs up Rt. 44 in Norfolk during his cross-country trek he's calling "Jogging for Jesus." Place, a Pentecostal Christian, plans to take four to six months to jog to San Diego, California. "I'm trying to start a fire across this country," he explained, and was compelled to undertake the run to raise awareness about the teachings of Jesus Christ. Place took care of his wife of 54 years during a 10-year illness, and gained about 80 pounds. He suffered a heart attack in 2003 and had a near-death experience. After his wife passed away, Place starting jogging to take off the weight, and eventually felt fit enough to undertake the run. He averages 15 miles per day, but would like to work up to covering 26 miles per day in the weeks to come as he makes his way across the country. His grandson is following along in an RV to provide support and lodging.
