Finished Stetsons sit on a rack Thursday inside the Danbury Hat Company, which now has closed. Danbury was home to the first hat factory in America; centuries later, the hat industry dominated the city. Many claim John F. Kennedy, the first president who didn¿t wear a hat to his inauguration, is to blame for the end of the hat industry. However, many of Danbury¿s hat shops had closed decades earlier. At its peak, the city had more than 30 factories producing 5 million hats per year, making it the "Hat Capital of the World".
