Christian Prince, 1991

A Yale University sophomore and star lacrosse player, Christian Prince was shot through the heart on his way home from a party after being robbed on the edge of campus Feb. 17, 1991. James Duncan Fleming, the 16-year-old youth charged in his murder, was from the Newhallville section of New Haven. A jury convicted Fleming of conspiracy to commit robbery, but did not reach a verdict on more serious charges. In a second trial, Duncan was found not guilty of attempted robbery and felony murder. The state Appellate Court later upheld Fleming’s conviction on the conspiracy charge and he was sentenced to a nine-year prison term. The case was detailed in a 1994 book by Geoffrey Douglas, "Dead Opposite: The Lives and Loss of Two American Boys.''
